All you ever wanted to know about Blues!
The Harbor Blues was first established in 1989, 2 years after the male a Capella group of GFA, the Beachside Express. Our advisor, Ms. Bergeron, more commonly known to us as "B", had some girls in GFA's concert choir who saw how much fun the boys were having and asked to start a group of their own. The first a Capella group consisted of 8 or 9 girls, nearly half the number it is today. B even had to convince girls to come and audition! Sarah Asher was the first pitch of the Blues. (The pitch of the group is the student director) The first gig that Blues ever performed was for the Junior High School of GFA, where they sang the first song they had ever learned, "The Rose". The first published recording of the Blues was made jointly with the Beachside Express in 1993. The album was entitled "Apple Cores and Yellow Jackets". Many Blues alumni have sung in college a Capella groups, and several have moved on to be pitch, director, or president of their college groups. Many of these alums have brought their own groups back to GFA in hopes to inspire new generations of young women to participate in the Harbor Blues.
